What is the famous food of Ganesh Chaturthi?
One of the most famous and beloved foods associated with Ganesh Chaturthi is “Modak.” Modak is a sweet dumpling that is considered to be Lord Ganesha’s favorite food. It is a traditional dish prepared during the festival and offered to Lord Ganesha as a symbol of devotion and reverence.
Modak is made by filling a sweet mixture of grated coconut, jaggery, cardamom, and sometimes nuts or dried fruits into a rice flour or wheat flour dough. The filled dough is then shaped into dumplings, either by hand or using special molds, and can be either steamed or fried.
There are different variations of modak found across different regions of India. In Maharashtra, for instance, “Ukadiche Modak” are steamed modaks made with rice flour dough. In South India, “Kozhukattai” is a similar dish that’s also prepared with various sweet and savory fillings.
During Ganesh Chaturthi, people often make modaks at home as an offering to Lord Ganesha and then distribute them among family members and friends as a token of good luck and blessings.
